The theme in this song is unrequited love.
Merryn - I was sitting by a carousel on a park bench in Paris interpreting the relationship of two middle aged people sitting across from me. The man seemed to be very consumed in his mind, almost shaking his head and outwardly ‘huuuumphing and grumpghing in ‘The Thinker’ type position though with a little grey cloud above his head. The woman sat eagerly by his side seemingly ready to jump on him out desperation and desire to be seen, it was almost tangible the love or lust she had exploding from her being. There were moments he’d look up from his well of confusion, acknowledge her, she’d hold on tightly to these moments, then he’d disappear again.
At one moment he looked up and passionately embraced her then just as suddenly, he stopped and left her alone wondering what to do with this dynamic, her power slowly fading from her.
After toing and froing for a while, they eventually tood up, said a cold goodbye then began walking down two separate streets; her walking up looking back towards him, in hopes of him doing the same… but he never did.
It was a sad and beautiful scene, one that I could have wrongly interpreted, but one that felt very human in its complexities of the heart.
